How to deal with panic attacks if you are by yourself/someone else is having a panic attack? Sorry if you've answered this already

anxietydisorderconfessions answered:

Do not worry about it !

If you are having a panic attack by yourself:

  • Color count: find all of the items in a room of a certain color
  • Count to 100 (multiple times) or 500 or 1000
  • Breathe: Inhale 4 seconds, hold in for 7 seconds, exhale 8 seconds: repeat.
  • Find something to fidget  with, a rubik’s cube, a stress ball, a fidget ring
  • Find a phrase and repeat it, in your head or out loud. I usually say “I will be okay” or something similar.
  • Talking definitely calms someone down. It can make breathing a lot easier. So if you can talk to yourself, it is good.
  • Go somewhere quiet if you are somewhere loud. Environment plays a big factor in how a panic attack plays out.

Someone else is having a panic attack:

  • Reassurance: say calming things like you will not leave them. That everything will be okay, even if it is not right now.
  • Make sure someone knows how to breathe. Follow the same steps as above. It is just important.
  • Tell them to try talking to you. About anything. Distractions are really good.
  • Ask this person if there is anything that you can do for them.
  • Take them to a less crowded place. It will be quieter and better for this person.

I hope that this helps you

This reminds me of a post I saw the other day where a guy was saying “you never realize how many people you hate until you try to pick a name for your baby” and it’s so true. You and your mate will be sitting there going “No, it can’t be Jessica, that bitch stole my necklace in 3rd grade.”

in my freshman year of college there was a guy who lived a floor above me who had this stereo system hooked up to the wifi so you could play music without being plugged in and it wasn’t password protected

so when my roommate and i got bored, we’d start blasting high school musical or hannah montana or justin beiber through his speakers just to hear him yell “fUCKING AGAIN?!”
